On Feb 16th, 56 Monty Tech JROTC students started their winter vacation a few hours ahead of everyone else, you see they had a plane to catch! The Cadets were off not to a wonderful vacation location, but to a small town in southeast Texas that was devastated by flooding during Hurricane Harvey. Our students volunteered their time working 12 hour days cleaning, painting and repairing homes that have seen considerable damage from the storm. Our goal was to bring hope to some folks who lost so much, hope that with a little help and a little time their lives can return to normal.
The students had raised over $60,000 that will be applied to home repairs; in addition, almost $10,000 in tools and supplies have been generously donated by local and national companies, and we received a $50,000 grant from Marine Corps JROTC that covered all of our travel and food.
We had over 190 students that helped raise the funds and over 150 that volunteered to fly down to Texas to work. That said, we are very proud of the Cadets and I know you are too.
